VIKTOR DAÐASON:
YOUNG GUNS SPOTLIGHT
Viktor Daðason, a young, up-and-coming Icelandic ‘phenom’ playing for F.C. Copenhagen, has caught the attention of a few European scouts (myself included). Just kidding, I don’t pretend to be all-knowing when it comes to assessing talent, but he genuinely has all the tools to be great.
Some big clubs are starting to take a look at the 6’4, 2008-born forward, who’s impressed in the Superliga and the Champions League this season.
On the 21st of October 2025, Daðason scored his first goal in Europe's elite club competition against Borussia Dortmund. He became the 3rd-youngest scorer in Champions League history. Only Ansu Fati and Lamine Yamal were younger. That’s some pretty good company, I’d say.
The Icelandic teenager has a big physical presence, unusual for a player so young, but it would be doing him a disservice, I think, just to label him a "target man". There’s technical quality there with his sharp movements in the box, and composure in front of goal. Much more than something to aim at.
F.C. Copenhagen moved quickly to tie him down to a long-term contract through 2028, with Director of Development Morten Grahn citing the club's ambition to build a Nordic core and calling the deal a “testament to their development model”.
“It’s encouraging that our FCK model helps create an environment and development pathway that appeals to talented young players, where they can see a clear route to the first team if they’re good enough,” said Grahn. F.C. København
Since my time living in Copenhagen, I’ve kept a close eye on the club, and Daðason has been one of the most exciting players to pull on the iconic white shirt in recent years. (With the exception of Roony Bardghji, who left to join Barcelona on a 4-year deal in July, 2025).
Regardless, the step up to a top-5 European league for Daðason will be a whole different challenge entirely. He’s got what the scouts look for, though, the size, the instinct, the mentality, and he’s already gained some valuable experience that most teenagers his age rarely get. That’s having gone up against Serie A Champions Napoli and Villarreal in European competition this season.
The big clubs will come calling, some already have. But right now, Copenhagen have a 17-year-old who’s signed a long-term deal, starting to grow into his frame, and has his sights set on seizing his moment. The future, for Viktor Daðason, looks very bright indeed.
Iceland will have already started to take a serious look as well. A full senior debut can’t be far off, and if he stays on this trajectory, Daðason could be one of, if not the most, consequential Icelandic footballer in quite some time.
(Am I getting ahead of myself? Maybe.) But it’s more fun this way.
