The change from the traditional group to head to head results have been the real nail in the coffin here. Even if they could get three points and level with Paraguay on points the loss here means a third place finish is beyond them. Disappointing for Turkiye but could also see many more pointless games in the final round of games across the groups. One of the possibly unforeseen consequences of the new way of doing things!

I guess we’d hoped tor the opposite with having more hanging on each game but Türkiye didn’t do themselves any favors at all lol

100% they are on the verge of being the side everyone thinks could make a run in either World Cup or Euros and forever being a disappointment!

Turkey didn’t play badly enough to go home. They played inefficiently enough to go home. And that’s been the story of this teams tournament without being too harsh.

100% I mentioned wasteful in there and I think it’s the best way to describe their entire tournament so far.

I think what’s interesting is that across those two games they produced 62 shots and scored zero goals, that is an extraordinary level of wastefulness at World Cup level.
