THE SWANS MIXED BAG:
WHAT'S THE REST OF THE SEASON HAVE IN STORE FOR SWANSEA?
Swansea had a mixed set of results over the last two games, starting with a 2-0 defeat away to Derby (Feb 14) and then a 1-0 win over Bristol City on Saturday (Feb 21). The inconsistency is what has plagued Swansea this campaign, leaving them one game above 500, with a few draws sprinkled in. Since December, though, no team has had a better home record than the Swans.
After Saturday’s win, Swansea boss Vítor Matos addressed the performance:
"We found a way to be in the opposition half. I think that was quite important for us, to have moments of good spells with the ball. In one of those moments, we score,” said Matos. BBC Sport
Continuing this kind of play at the Swansea.com, backed by their home supporters, is what can turn the tide on an up-and-down season so far.
They sit 14th, one point above Stoke and 6 points off the top 6. If they plan to continue their playoff charge with 13 games remaining, we’ll have to see that home form continue and them start picking up more points on the road.
A player who really can’t be doing much more for the Swans is Žan Vipotnik. He’s leading the Championship with 16 goals and is showing no sign of slowing down. The Slovenian forward is firmly in the conversation for the Golden Boot.
The realistic outlook, however, is that Swansea's playoff aspirations may be a bit too far out of reach, but not entirely out of the question. They’ll need to dig deep and conjure up something almost perfect to give themselves a chance.
Swansea have still gone from fighting relegation to fighting for a playoff spot in just three months, and that is absolutely something to be encouraged by. The Championship is such an intriguing league because positions change daily, and anyone who can get hot at the right time can squeak into the playoffs. Once in, anything can happen. ‘Mynd Amdani!’ 🦾 🏴
